Bloomberg Could Get OK for Third Run

A controversial bill to ditch the two-term limit for New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and dozens of other city officials will be introduced next week, reports the New York Times. City Council members believe Bloomberg has enough support to pass the measure, though supporters and critics alike are nonplussed by the lack of details being provided. The council vote could come later this month.

Two Democrats who are planning mayoral runs themselves slammed the "back-room" deal and accused Bloomberg of trying to subvert democracy. New York voters have twice approved the two-term limit, which would be permanently bumped up to three terms by the proposed legislation. Bloomberg—who says he still supports term limits—has argued that there’s no time to put the question to voters before November 4.
