Israeli police are recommending that embattled Prime Minister Ehud Olmert be indicted for bribery, money laundering and fraud, reports the Guardian. The final decision on what action to take after the 18-month investigation rests with the nation's attorney general. Olmert has already indicated he will resign within days.
"We will wait patiently for the decision of the attorney general. Unlike the police, he is aware of the heavy responsibility he holds," said a statement by Olmert's legal team. Olmert is accused of illegally accepting $150,000 for campaigns, and accepting tens of thousands of dollars in gifts. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni is expected to replace Olmert, but polls suggest she would struggle to win a general election.
