Lefty Milwaukee Brewers CC Sabathia threw a one-hit shutout pitching a complete game against the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday in a 7-0 victory. But instead of celebrating, the Brewers are furious that he was denied a no-hitter by an official's disputed fifth-inning base-hit call on what some say was an fielding error in the three-walk, 11-strikeout game, reports the Milwaukee Sentinel.
"That's a joke. That wasn't even close," the Brewers' angry manager said of the call. "It's just sad. He accomplished a no-hitter and wasn't given what he deserved. I feel horrible for CC." The official stood firmly behind his call after the game. The Brewers are appealing the disputed play to Major League Baseball officials, but officials have never before restored a no-hitter after a game. (More C.C. Sabathia stories.)
