Brutal Monk Beatings Shock Italy
Italian media have compared the attack on the monks to A Clockwork Orange, Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film about violent youth.   (argentofanatiker)

A manhunt is under way to find the three hooded men who gagged, bound, and beat four Franciscan monks in an Italian monastery Tuesday night, the Times of London reports. Father Sergio Baldin, the monastery's 48-year-old guardian, was having dinner with three elderly monks when they were attacked. Baldin remains in a coma in a hospital near the northern city of Turin.

Italian media are comparing the brutal attack to A Clockwork Orange, the landmark 1971 film on violent youth. Police say the motive was robbery, and the attackers might have expected to find riches at the monastery, though the monks only had small amounts of money. An archbishop says the assailants could have been "either drugged or possessed, or both." (More crime stories.)
