An emotional Joe Biden gave thanks to delegates from his home state of Delaware at the Democratic National Convention today, the New York Times reports. At a private breakfast, Biden said his vice-presidential nod “pales in comparison to the honor I’ve had representing you.” He also apologized for his loose tongue over the years, and said he couldn’t have made it “without you guys.”

The senator was also characteristically humorous, making light of his new prominence, the AP notes. “This is the first time I've ever had security. Senators don't matter,” he said. Biden also took time to praise Michelle Obama’s as “an incredible woman, folks,” and called her speech yesterday the most important of the convention. And Barack? “This guy’s got it. This guy’s got it.” (More Joe Biden stories.)
