Clinton Fans Say Her Support for Obama Tepid

Yesterday Hillary Clinton gave a speech in Florida, site of her uncontested primary victory, and urged Democrats to vote for Barack Obama in November. But as the New York Times reports, many at the rally found her support for the presumptive nominee lukewarm at best. In a room full of her supporters, the sentiment prevailed that Clinton's performance was more perfunctory than heartfelt.

"The Clintons are the best thing that ever happened to politics," said one woman from West Palm Beach—and even she said that Hillary "should have been a little more forceful and more convincing." Many at the Florida rally said that Clinton underestimated the divide among Democrats and the extent of racial prejudice among older Floridian voters. One woman in Boca Raton called Obama's support there "still iffy, which is freaking me out." (More Florida stories.)
