The Dow is now in uncharted territory. The stock market index reached 40,000 for the first time ever in trading on Thursday, reports CNBC and the Wall Street Journal. Markets have been rising this week thanks to a report suggesting that inflation was slowing down. The benchmark S&P 500 also is in record territory, north of 5,300.
