Sophie Kinsella, the author of Confessions of a Shopaholic, has been diagnosed with a deadly brain cancer, reports the Daily Beast. Kinsella's diagnosis of glioblastoma—the same cancer that killed Sens. Ted Kennedy and John McCain, as well as Beau Biden—came in late 2022, she said in a post on X:
- "I did not share this before because I wanted to make sure that my children were able to hear and process the news in privacy and adapt to our 'new normal.' I have been under the care of the excellent team at University College Hospital in London and have had successful surgery and subsequent radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which is still ongoing. At the moment all is stable and I am feeling generally very well, though I get very tired and my memory is even worse than it was before!"
People notes that median survival rate for glioblastoma is roughly 14 months. The 54-year-old Kinsella has written 35 books, including The Burnout, which was released in October 2023. She has five children. (More glioblastoma stories.)
