David Rush, the man who calls himself "one of the most prolific Guinness World Records title holders on the planet," now has a new notch in his world record belt. "My neck seared with pain. My back hurt, my eyes watered, and my legs shook," the Idaho author and dad of two narrates in a video showing his latest feat—balancing a running lawn mower on his chin for 9 minutes, 17 seconds.
UPI reports that Rush—who spent all of 2021 breaking world records, and who's attempting to become the holder of the most concurrent world records with Guinness—had tried to break this particular record a few years back, but his time of 3 minutes, 52 seconds was disqualified because the lawn mower he was balancing didn't have a grass clipping bag attached. Another Guinness fanatic, Ashrita Furman, eventually ended up logging 7 minutes, 2 seconds with a lawn mower on his chin, presenting Rush with even more of a challenge.
In the video, Rush explains how he had to train to build up tolerance and get past his "pain threshold." This time around, "the pain was too much" just shy of the 10 minutes he'd hoped to register—but while he fell short of that goal, he still managed to yank the record from Furman. "I couldn't move my mouth, neck, back, or legs" after finally removing the mower from his reddened chin, "but the record was mine," Rush says. As for those concurrent Guinness titles, Rush now has 165. The record, held by Silvio Sabba, is 180. (More Guinness World Records stories.)
