It's a story that's drawing plenty of Weekend at Bernie's references: Police say two Ohio women drove their dead roommate's body—propped up in the car's front seat—to a bank's drive-through window on Monday in order to get money from his account. NBC News describes the alleged series of events, which reportedly began when Karen Casbohm, 63, and Loreen Bea Feralo, 55, found Douglas Layman, 80, dead.

Ashtabula Police Chief Robert B. Stell said in a statement that a third, unnamed person helped the women put Layman's body into the front seat of his car and made the withdrawal. "The bank had allowed [the women to withdraw money on Layman's behalf] previously as long as they were accompanied by him," Stell says.

They allegedly then deposited his body at Ashtabula County Medical Center's ER without providing hospital staff with information about Layman at the time; police say one of the women subsequently called the hospital with some details. Officers went to Layman's Ashtabula home, where the roommates told them about the bank trip, Stell said. The women have been charged with abuse of a corpse and theft, reports the Star Beacon. Layman's cause of death has not yet been determined. (More strange stuff stories.)
