Yankees DH Jason Giambi acceded to a meeting with former Senate Majority Leader and steroids investigator George Mitchell, to discuss the power-hitter's possible use of performance-enhancing drugs. Giambi had initially balked at the official probe, but caved under pressure from Commissioner Bud Selig, who says the meeting will occur "promptly."
The Post reports the interview may be softball for Giambi: The players' union set strict rules, and questions and answers will likely be rehearsed. Giambi had taken a long lead on steroids, thundering that players offered fans an apology for using them, but shuffled back to base after appearing to admit to his own "history" of illegally beefing up. Selig left open the possibility of punishment for Juice. (More Jason Giambi stories.)
