A Paris wax museum says it will fix a wax statue of Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson after a massive uproar over the statue's appearance—most notably its very white skin tone. The actor and onetime professional wrestler's mother is Samoan, and his Canadian father was Black, the Guardian reports. Commenters on social media were comparing the wax statue, which does match Johnson's bald head, to Mr. Clean, and the Musée Grévin's choice of attire for the statue—a polo shirt, slacks, belt, and sneakers combo that Variety refers to as "a suburban dad kind of outfit that Johnson is almost never seen in"—was also raising eyebrows. On Sunday, the Rock himself reposted a social media takedown and added his own two cents.
The roast, from comedian James Andre Jefferson Jr., calls out the museum for the white statue, wondering, "Is this how y'all felt when you lost the Little Mermaid?" He compared the statue to someone who looked like they might work at H&R Block, or perhaps was about to join the royal family. A highly amused Johnson noted in his caption, "For the record, I'm going to have my team reach out to our friends at Grevin Museum, in Paris France so we can work at 'updating' my wax figure here with some important details and improvements—starting with my skin color."
