One of the perks of many gym memberships is the ability to occasionally bring in a friend on a guest pass. For this fitness center aficionado in Florida, however, no such pass was in their possession, and they were nobody's guest—but they wormed their way into the facility anyway. Per WSVN, the devil-may-care interloper was a turtle who snuck in via the open garage door at Port St. Lucie's Iron Knight Gym, setting off a low-speed chase around the gym by the site's manager.
"I don't know if I should pick you up; I don't want you to snap at me," Nikki Baker tells CNN of her inner dialogue during the reptilian encounter. "And I don't want to hurt you." In a video shown on the news outlet, the turtle—which it IDs as a member of the threatened gopher tortoise species—can be seen waddling among the dumbbells and weight machines. Baker can also be seen in the clip, following the turtle around, until she finally came up with the idea to slowly shoo the hard-shelled intruder out with a towel.
"You always think turtles are slow, but no, this guy was going," Baker says. Someone even had a little fun over the incident, penning an online, five-star review of the gym in the turtle's voice. "Thought I'd give them a try cus the door was open," the "turtle" wrote. "All in all it seems like a great facility, however, I decided not to enroll because I am a turtle."
