A plan to construct the world’s largest solar plant in Arizona could be in jeopardy due in part to voting absences and political reluctance by John McCain, Politico reports. The fate of the nearly 2,000-acre plant hinges on energy tax credits that are due to expire—credits funded by increased taxes on business, which McCain is hesitant to support.
The company behind the plant claims it would bring 1,500 construction jobs and 85 skilled, permanent positions to McCain’s home state, as well as $4 billion in energy revenue over 30 years. McCain has supported solar in the past, but laments that its current implementation “does not meet…demands, much less existing requirements that we have.” (More John McCain stories.)
