Citizen Kane has stood the test of time—and then 10 more years. The American Film Institute refreshed its list of the 100 greatest American films, and Orson Welles' portrait of power and privacy remains on top. Rounding out the top 5 are The Godfather, Casablanca, Raging Bull (which surged from number 24) and Singin' In the Rain.

The AFI took votes from 1,500 industry insiders for the list. Only four flicks produced since the original rankings, which came out in 1998, made it on: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (#50), Saving Private Ryan (#71), Titanic (#83), and The Sixth Sense (#89). Steven Spielberg now has 5 movies on the list—more than any director. (More film stories.)
