Three children and three adults were killed in a school shooting Monday morning in Nashville, reports the Tennessean. A shooter identified by police as a 28-year-old Nashville woman also is dead. Police say the shooter entered the private Christian school with two assault rifles and a handgun and was shot dead after being "engaged by" officers at the scene. A spokesperson for Vanderbilt University Medical Center confirmed the fatalities after the shooting at the Covenant School about 10:30am. Police say the three adults were staffers at the school. The school is described by the AP as a private Christian school for students from preschool to sixth grade. Democratic state Rep. Bob Freeman, whose district includes the school, called the mass shooting an "unimaginable tragedy," per the AP. "I live around the corner from Covenant and pass by it often. I have friends who attend both church and school there," Freeman said. "I have also visited the church in the past. It tears my heart apart to see this." (More school shooting stories.)
