Greg Norman's lead didn't hold up in today's second round of the British Open, with KJ Choi shooting a 3-under-par 67 to snatch the top spot heading into the weekend at Royal Birkdale. The South Korean, at 1-under 139, is the only player in the field under par. Three weeks after marrying tennis great Chris Evert, Norman kept up the honeymoon with his second consecutive par 70, leaving him one stroke off Choi's lead.
Norman won the Open twice in his prime but never thought it was still there for the taking at age 53. "My expectations were almost nil coming in," he said. "I hadn't played a lot of golf." David Duval, the 2001 champ who's missed 10 of 11 cuts on the PGA Tour this year, shot a 69 and is just three strokes behind Choi at +2. Camilo Villegas, a 26-year-old Colombian, posted a 5-under 65—the tournament's best round so far—and is the only player at 1-over, between Norman and a seven-player bunch that includes Duval and defending champ Padraig Harrington.
