As promised, Johnny Depp has appealed the $2 million judgment Amber Heard was awarded in her countersuit to his defamation case. The jury found both Depp and Heard were defamed, ordering Heard to pay Depp $10.35 million and Depp to pay Heard $2 million, and now both are appealing those verdicts, TMZ reports. In court documents filed Wednesday, Depp's legal team argues that the jury should not have found the actor liable for the remarks in question, because it was actually his lawyer who made the comments, not him.

Attorney Adam Waldman, when talking with a British tabloid about Heard's account of the fight that ended her marriage to Depp, accused Heard of creating a "hoax" of abuse claims against Depp, People reports. "So Amber and her friends spilled a little wine and roughed the place up, got their stories straight under the direction of a lawyer and publicist, and then placed a second call to 911," Waldman said. Depp's appeal documents argue that he's not responsible for Waldman's words, and also that Heard's legal team did not meet one of the requirements of a defamation claim: proving Waldman spoke with malice when he made the remarks.

In other Depp news, Rihanna cast him in her Savage X Fenty Vol. 4 fashion show, and the singer is being criticized for the choice, Yahoo Entertainment reports. "If she’s not dumping pig’s blood all over his head, I don’t know why she could POSSIBLY think this is a good idea. Very disgusting and embarrassing for her," reads one sample Twitter reaction to the news. (More Johnny Depp stories.)
