Lauren Graham's new book of essays is due out later this month, and the writing behind it proved therapeutic for her after splitting with longtime love Peter Krause. "I just was not going to let [the breakup] flatten me," she tells People. "I was like, 'OK, well, look at all the good stuff I have, and look at all the good times,' and 'I'm going to write this book.'" She adds that she was grateful to have "these outlets and these stories to tell." The 55-year-old Gilmore Girls star—who met Krause, 57, in 1995 and started dating him in 2010, when they worked together on the NBC series Parenthood, per Page Six—broke up with the Six Feet Under actor in June after 12 years together, a period in which she helped raise his son Roman, who's now in his early 20s.
Things started to get rough for the couple deep in the pandemic, when Graham said she was working while Krause was at home with Roman. "Reentry was more difficult," Graham said in April 2021 during an appearance on Ellen, per Us. "It was more like they were the married couple, and I was the person who ... they were like, 'We don't do it that way anymore,'" she said during the interview. Ultimately, though, she tells People, their uncoupling came down to a lack of shared values. "We almost came into a relationship as people in their 40s without asking any of the questions people in their 40s should be asking," she notes.
Graham continues: "We had such a good time together that I didn't maybe ask some fundamental questions about 'What are your values and what do you envision?' and those more grown-up things. And then they just caught up with us." She notes the split is "sad" and "a shame," but says she's in "a better place" now and content to focus on the little things in life, like taking hot showers and pretending she's a character in The Crown while sipping tea. "I have finally found pillows that I like," she tells People. Have I Told You This Already? is set for release Nov. 15. (More Lauren Graham stories.)
