"If you switch out the hammer for a red feather boa you could be Hunter Biden in an instant," Trump Jr. tweeted. The underwear was an apparent reference to a conspiracy theory shared by Elon Musk, who shared a story from a fringe website about the attack.

After days of silence on the incident, Donald Trump called it a "terrible thing" on Sunday, though the former president framed it in the context of violence in cities run by Democrats, the Hill reports. "With all of them it’s a terrible thing,” Trump told conservative outlet Americano Media. "Look at what’s happened to San Francisco generally. Look at what’s happening in Chicago. It was far worse than Afghanistan." "We have to give the police back their authority and their power and their respect," Trump said, claiming when an officer "says something that’s slightly out of line," it's "like the end of his life, the end of his pension, the end of his family."
