TMZ was the first to start the Friday buzz that divorce papers were imminent in the Tom Brady-Gisele Bundchen marriage, and now the rumors that have been flying for weeks have been confirmed. It was Brady himself who acknowledged the split, as seen in an Instagram story that's already making its rounds on social media. "In recent days, my wife and I finalized our divorce from one another after 13 years of marriage," the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, 45, wrote in a statement of the end of his union to the 42-year-old supermodel. "We arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together."
In her own note, Bundchen expressed a similar sentiment: “The decision to end a marriage is never easy but we have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always,” she wrote, per the AP. HuffPost notes that multiple outlets had reported earlier this month on the two each hiring a divorce lawyer, with the predominant narrative pointing to Bundchen's unhappiness that Brady had returned to the football scene just a month after announcing his retirement.
In his divorce announcement, Brady noted that the decision to end their marriage had been a "painful and difficult" one, done after "much consideration," but that "we wish only the best for each other." He also wrote that they will remain parents "blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way. We will continue to work together as parents to always ensure they receive the love and attention they deserve." The couple have three children. (More Tom Brady stories.)
