The Philadelphia Phillies will take on the Houston Astros in this year's World Series—and while this is the Astros' fourth World Series since 2017, it's the first for the Phillies since 2009, and demand for tickets is red-hot. CNBC reports that according to reseller TicketIQ, the average ticket price on the secondary market for tickets to World Series games in Philadelphia is $3,224, the second-highest on record. The reseller notes that ticket prices tend to be higher the longer a team has gone without playing in a World Series, which is why the record was set in 2016, when the Chicago Cubs made it to the series for the first time since 1945 and the average ticket price was a stunning $6,641.
The first two games of the best-of-seven series will be played in Houston, with the next two, and a fifth if necessary, in Philadelphia. Game 6 and Game 7, if necessary, will be in Houston. Even the cheapest seats at Philadephia's Citizens Bank Park are going for more than $1,000 on the secondary market, CBS reports. Phillies fans can also register for an opportunity to buy tickets directly from the team, though there's no guarantee they'll get one. Registration ends at midnight Tuesday. The Philadelphia Inquirer notes that it might be possible for frugal Phillies fans to catch a game in Houston that will work out cheaper, including the cost of travel. According to TicketIQ, the average price for Houston games was $1,584 as of Monday. (More World Series stories.)
