Some Grand Canyon tourists got an unexpectedly long stay down in the caverns. An elevator broke at the tourist site on Sunday, leaving five visitors stuck 200 feet underground until their rescue on Monday night, reports ABC15. It's not as bad as it sounds, however: This being a tourist attraction, the Grand Canyon Caverns actually has a motel suite below ground, and the tourists spent their night there.

A larger group of people was stranded initially, but most were able to walk up 21 flights of stairs to safety when the elevator went bust, per CNN. However, five people who could not manage the stairs—or stayed behind with those who couldn't—were for a while stuck down there with no way out. The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office was preparing to hoist people out when a technician got the elevator running again. (More Grand Canyon stories.)
