At Football Game, 'Every School District's Worst Nightmare'

A Friday night football game at an Ohio high school ended in chaos after three people were shot outside the stadium while the game was taking place. Per ABC News, the shooting happened on the outskirts of the field at Toledo's Whitmer High School, which was playing Central Catholic. A witness tells WTVG there were only about eight minutes left in the game when the shots rang out, sending players and spectators running. Video from the BCSN broadcast of the game shows the players lining up, then what sounds like gunshots in the background. The camera then pans to a wider shot of the field, showing people running and screaming, at which point the announcer says, "We're going to break." Other footage shows more of the same, with fans running in the stands and on the field, and others crawling and huddling on the ground to take cover.

The Toledo Police Department says two of the victims were female, one male, and that they were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Washington Local Schools District notes in a statement that two of the victims were adults and one was a Whitmer student. The police say two people are in custody, while two others they're looking for may "possibly" have been involved in the shooting, per WTOL. In her own statement, Washington Local Schools Superintendent Kadee Anstad said she was "deeply saddened" by what had transpired, and that district officials didn't want to speculate further on the "atrocious act" until more details were known, per ABC.
