Dr. Frasier Crane is returning to TV, 18 years after Frasier ended its 11-season run on NBC and 38 years after the character first walked into Sam Malone's bar on Cheers. Paramount+ has greenlighted a new series with Kelsey Grammer reprising his most famous role, Deadline reports. Grammer is also listed as an executive producer. The project was first announced in 2021 and the streaming service has now officially ordered a series, per the Hollywood Reporter. Few details have been announced, but the series is expected to feature the psychiatrist-turned-radio host starting life in a new city again. In the original Frasier series, the character had moved from Boston to Seattle.

"I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane," Grammer, 67, said in a statement, per Rolling Stone. Frasier regulars Jane Leeves, Peri Gilpin, and David Hyde Pierce aren't expected to have regular roles, but guest appearances are a possibility. Vulture reports that Hyde Pierce, who played Crane's brother, said in June that while he hadn't been approached about joining the reboot and he believes new stories can be told without him "in the same way that Frasier did after Cheers," he definitely won't rule out making an appearance. (John Mahoney, who played Crane's father, died in 2018.)
