The deposition of former President Donald Trump in a defamation lawsuit filed against him by E. Jean Carroll is scheduled for Oct. 19, a court filing entered Friday in US District Court in New York shows. Trump's attorneys are to depose Carroll on Oct. 14, CBS News reports. The author says Trump sexually assaulted her in the 1990s in a department store; Trump has denied the accusation. Carroll's filing also indicated that her lawyers may seek information from Jared Kushner, saying Trump identified his son-in-law as one of six people he discussed the accusation with.
Roberta Kaplan, Carroll's attorney, complained in the filing that Trump has been stalling, per CNN. He's "violated every deadline that applied to his discovery responses without any credible excuse for his failure," she wrote. The filing said Carroll's team has asked Trump's six times since Aug. 23 for contact information for Kushner and five other witnesses and has not received it. The filing was a response to Trump's request last week for a stay in the case. "It could hardly be clearer that defendant hopes to 'run out the clock' until he is elected president again," Kaplan wrote, per the Guardian. Carroll's lawyers have said they plan to file a sexual battery lawsuit against Trump, as well, which they suggested could be combined with the defamation suit. (More Donald Trump stories.)
