Beetle Bailey Finds New Barracks

One of the world's biggest collections of cartoon art has found a new home at Ohio State University, the Wall Street Journal reports. "Beetle Bailey" creator Mort Walker amassed more than 200,000 pieces of cartoon art during his 7 decades in the business but had to move his National Cartoon Museum several times and eventually shut it for good in 2002.

Walker started his historic collection in the '40s when he saw original artwork being used to mop up water at a cartoon distributor's offices. Contributions from fellow artists helped the collection snowball over the years. "It's always been Mort right out there in front," said Garfield creator Jim Davis. "Fighting for the cartoons and fighting for cartooning as a legitimate art form. He's been tireless." (More cartoon stories.)
