The most detailed research ever conducted on the issue emphatically contradicts the US position that biofuels are responsible for a mere 3% price bump. It hasn’t been published, sources say, for fear of embarrassing President Bush.
"It would put the World Bank in a political hot-spot with the White House," said one source. The biofuel question is particularly hot because the G8 leaders are meeting to discuss it next week.
