The sequel is coming, and it only took 40 years. Mel Brooks, now 95, has signed a deal with Hulu to create an eight-part series called History of the World, Part II, reports Variety. It is pitched as a sequel of sorts to his classic movie History of the World, Part I, which covered the dawn of man to the French Revolution, notes Sam Barsanti at the AV Club. Barsanti points out that a series format makes more sense than a movie for Brooks' vignette-style treatment of history.
A post at Salon recalls one of the funnier moments from the original, when Brooks, as Moses, sets out to announce the 15 commandments, drops one of his three tablets, and settles for 10 instead. Production is scheduled to start in the spring. Nick Kroll and Wanda Sykes are two of the bigger names attached. (More Mel Brooks stories.)
