Crime / Chicago 7-Year-Old Girl Shot 6 Times at Chicago McDonald’s Chicago mayor says she's 'heartbroken' after the shooting at a drive-thru Sunday afternoon By Liz MacGahan, Newser Staff Posted Apr 19, 2021 12:49 PM CDT Copied A police commander walks by as police investigate the scene where Jontae Adams, 28, and his daughter Jaslyn, 7, were shot, resulting in Jaslyn's death at a McDonald's drive-thru in Chicago. (Anthony Vazquez/Chicago Sun-Times via AP) A 7-year-old girl was killed and her father seriously injured Sunday afternoon while they were waiting in line at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Chicago. Jaslyn Adams, a first-grader, was shot six times, the Chicago Tribune reports. Her father, Jontae Adams, 28, was struck once. A police officer responding to the shooting put Jaslyn in his squad car and rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her father is in serious condition. Witnesses saw two people in a silver Audi park, get out of the car, and start shooting into the Infiniti sedan Adams was driving. Police say 45 spent shell casings were found. Police also say they believe the shooting was gang-related, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Another shooting about three hours later in another drive-thru—this one at a Popeye’s—is believed to be related. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said on Twitter that she is “heartbroken and angered.” Jaslyn’s aunt Tawny McMullen pleaded for an end to the violence. “Our kids want to play,” she said. “Please put the guns down, please.” (Chicago remains on edge after the release of police bodycam video showing the fatal shooting of 13-year-old Adam Toledo.)
