Seen the Ivanka and Jared billboards in Times Square? They're causing a bit of a stir, the Hill reports. One of the ads shows Ivanka Trump gesturing with a smile toward coronavirus death tallies of "33,366+ New Yorkers" and "221,247+ Americans." The other shows Jared Kushner beside body bags and a quote in which he said New Yorkers "are going to suffer and that's their problem." The power couple's lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, wrote a stern letter to the group behind the project: "I am writing concerning the false, malicious and defamatory ads that the Lincoln Project is displaying on billboards in Times Square," wrote Kasowitz. "If these billboards are not immediately removed, we will sue you for what will doubtless be enormous compensatory and punitive damages."
The Lincoln Project—a Republican group that opposes President Trump—responded to Kasowitz's threat by tweeting, "Nuts!" The group later responded with a longer statement calling the couple's indignation "comical": "Jared and Ivanka have always been entitled, out-of-touch bullies who have never given the slightest indication they have any regard for the American people," the group said, per the New York Daily News. "The billboards will stay up." Kushner's quote came from a September Vanity Fair article in which he criticized New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's efforts to obtain protective coronavirus equipment back in March. The article notes that Kushner also appeared to resist federal action that would have helped the state.
