It's not clear where the happy family of three is going to live long term yet, but Elon Musk, girlfriend Grimes, and little X Æ A-12 Musk will soon be settling in at home together. And it looks like the curious won't have to wonder any longer what the new baby boy's name means: The 48-year-old Tesla/SpaceX CEO and 32-year-old pop singer have offered an explainer into the unusual moniker. After Musk tweeted out a photo of himself Tuesday holding his new son, as well as an update noting the baby was "happy, healthy & cute as a button," Grimes—real name Claire Boucher—took to Twitter to explain the name.
It's a complex one, and Grimes took it step by step, per USA Today. "X" is "the unknown variable," she posted, while "Æ" is "my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)." "A-12," meanwhile, is a "precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent." She added a final note that "A" also is a reference to "Archangel, my favorite song." The BBC notes it's not clear how the name is pronounced and that it may not even be legal in California, where the baby may have been born. The baby is Grimes' first and Musk's seventh.
