Woody Allen's long-rumored memoir will be published next month, according to a Monday release from Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group. It was quickly followed by harsh words from Dylan Farrow, the daughter who claims Allen molested her as a young girl in the early 1990s. In a statement on Twitter, Farrow said the decision to publish the memoir was an "utter betrayal" of the work of her brother, journalist Ronan Farrow, who "gave voice to numerous survivors of sexual assault by powerful men," including Harvey Weinstein. His book, Catch and Kill, was released by another Hachette division in 2019. Dylan Farrow also noted she hadn't been contacted by fact checkers to "verify the information in this 'memoir'" though her allegation "has never been published without extensive fact checking," per the Daily Beast.
"This provides yet another example of the profound privilege that power, money, and notoriety affords," she wrote. "Hachette's complicity in this should be called out for what it is and they should have to answer for it." In its statement, Grand Central Publishing described the memoir from Allen, who has long denied the abuse, as "a comprehensive account of his life, both personal and professional" in which he "describes his work in films, theatre, television, nightclubs, and print" as well as "his relationships with family, friends, and the loves of his life," per the AP. The Oscar-winning filmmaker is expected to do several interviews to promote the book, Apropos of Nothing, due out April 7. Dylan Farrow has her own book coming out this fall.
