After years of encouragement in the form of gift iPhones, as well as an offer from Apple's CEO to fly to Omaha to set one up for him, Warren Buffett has made the switch. He's now using the new iPhone11, CNBC reports. What did he do with his old phone? "My flip phone is permanently gone," Buffett said Monday. It's the first smartphone for Berkshire Hathaway's chairman, though he only makes calls on it. "I use it as a phone," he said. "You’re looking at an 89-year-old guy who's barely beginning to get with it." Buffett has said before that he checks stock prices on an iPad.
Buffett already was invested in Apple: His company owns about 5.5% of the company, a slice worth about $72 billion. It's "probably the best business I know in the world," he said Monday. Buffett sounds like he's committed to the switch, joking that he might smash his old $20 flip phone at his company's next annual meeting. (More Warren Buffett stories.)
