Authorities in Alabama are hunting a 43-year-old man who has been serving a life sentence for murder since he was a teenager. Daniel Miner, who was convicted of a 1993 Marshall County murder in 1994 and sentenced to life with the possibility of parole, escaped from a minimum-security work-release facility on Saturday, ABC reports. Officials say Miner was reported missing from his bed during a Saturday night inmate count at the Childersburg Community Based Facility and Community Work Center in Alpine, around 30 miles southeast of Birmingham. The 40 or so inmates at the facility work for private employers in the community.
Miner—who was also convicted of a prison contraband charge in 2003—is described as a white man, 192 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair, the Gadsten Times reports. Authorities say he has a tattoo of a dragon on his back and assorted other tattoos, including white power symbols, on his neck, arms, and torso. He was last seen wearing state-issued white clothing. The Alabama Department of Corrections says Miner's custody level was "minimum-out," the level deemed "appropriate for inmates that do not pose a significant risk to self or others and suitable to be assigned off-property work details without the direct supervision of correctional officers."
