"I was fine and then I ate a cupcake," a mother in Tacoma, Wash., told a 911 dispatcher after an encounter with a woman who told her she was a newborn photographer. Elysia Miller began to slur her words in the call placed Feb. 5 after she had eaten cupcakes given to her by Juliette Parker and Parker's 16-year-old daughter; both eventually left the home after being repeatedly asked. "I don't feel good … I'm super spacey like it's hard to talk," Miller continued, per ABC News, describing much of her body as numb. "I'm telling you something is wrong with me." Police say 38-year-old Parker, who advertised free newborn photos on a Facebook group for parents, planned to steal Miller's 3-week-old daughter and raise her as her own. Miller called 911 after noticing her house keys were missing. She said she also saw Parker wipe down a wine glass and other items she'd touched.
Doctors reportedly said her symptoms suggested exposure to the date-rape drug GHB. Prosecutors say Parker texted an ex-boyfriend asking if he had access to the drug, per CBS News. The pair also allegedly discussed other means of getting a "baby girl," including from a homeless person. Arrested Feb. 14, Parker—who ran for mayor of Colorado Springs, Colo., in 2019—pleaded not guilty to second-degree attempted kidnapping and assault in Pierce County Superior Court on Tuesday, and was held on $150,000 bail. Her daughter pleaded not guilty to the same charges in juvenile court. Meanwhile, Miller advised parents to use caution during a newborn photoshoot and to "ask for references." Traumatized, "I carry a machete, a knife, and pepper spray in my house and in my car," she said, per CBS. (More child abduction stories.)
