Pamela Anderson and Jon Peters reunited after 30 years and surprised the world with their marriage, then surprised the world again 12 days later with their split. Competing rumors and reports have come out about what exactly caused it, with sources telling Page Six last week that Anderson's heart was "too open" after a monthlong spiritual cleanse in India and that she quickly discovered after Peters' proposal that he was "too controlling." Sources who spoke to Fox News say she had never lived with Peters before and soon realized she couldn't. Now, Peters has responded, telling Page Six it was actually Anderson who proposed (via text)—and claiming he actually paid off $200,000 in bills for the "broke" Anderson before they split. "There’s no fool like an old fool," he says.

Sources previously told Us that Peters "has amassed a sizable fortune, which is for his kids. He realized that marrying Pam could affect that," apparently prompting him to end things. Peters showed Page Six the text he says he sent Anderson to that end. It reads in part, "this whole marriage thing with lawyers, debt, and jazmin [sic] has scared me. it made me realize that at 74 i need a simple quiet life and not an international love affair." "Jazmin" is a reference to Jasmin, a "sex-positive" website Anderson is involved with. (The Miami Herald reported back in December that the site is so NSFW, "We can't even get through our corporate firewall to peruse" it.) Anderson's rep says Peters' "claims are not only entirely fabricated, they are ludicrous. Despite Mr. Peters’ efforts to elicit a response from Ms. Anderson, she has no comment to provide and wishes him well." (More Pamela Anderson stories.)
