This year's Super Bowl featured dueling ads from President Trump and Michael Bloomberg—but there was a lot more buzz around Mr. Peanut. In a commercial that features in numerous lists of both the best and worst ads from the big game, mourners, including fellow mascots Mr. Clean and the Kool-Aid Man, gather for the funeral of Mr. Peanut, whose death at age 104 Planters announced last month. But their grief turned out to be short-lived, as Baby Nut soon emerged from the soil. Other talked-about ads, which can be seen in the gallery:

  • Google. Google's ad was a tear-jerker that CNN likens to the "opening sequence of the movie Up distilled into a commercial."
  • Jeep. In what the Street ranks as this year's best Super Bowl ad, Jeep's "Groundhog Day" ad features Bill Murray breaking the familiar morning routine with a new Jeep Gladiator—and a fun-loving groundhog.

  • Cheetos. Two big trends in this year's ads were light-heartedness and nostalgia, both of which featured in a "Can't Touch This" Cheetos ad featuring MC Hammer, the New York Times reports.
  • Rocket Mortgage. Jason Momoa hilariously loses his muscles, and his hair, as he unwinds in his "sanctuary" in an ad for Rocket Mortgage, reports EW.com.
  • Squarespace. In another nostalgic moment, Squarespace sent Winona Ryder back to her birthplace, Winona, Minn., in a Fargo-inspired ad.
  • Hyundai. Boston celebrities including Chris Evans, John Krasinki, Rachel Dratch, and David Ortiz discuss Hyundai's new "Smaht Pahk" feature in an ad that the AP ranks among the game's best.
  • Mountain Dew. This ad featuring Bryan Cranston made AdAge wish for an entire Shining remake with Walter White.

  • Facebook. Facebook focused on its Groups feature in its first Super Bowl ad, which included a cameo from Sylvester Stallone as Rocky.
  • Doritos. Summertime hit "Old Town Road" is the soundtrack to Doritos' hit ad, in which Lil Nas faces off with Sam Elliott in a showdown at the Cool Ranch.
  • Amazon. Amazon depicts "an impossibly distant history in which we couldn’t ask Alexa to do things" in this ad, which made it into AdWeek's Top3.
  • Microsoft. Katie Sowers, the first woman to coach in the Super Bowl, features in Microsoft's "Be the One" ad, which AdAge ranks among the game's most powerful spots.
