Investigation Follows Lawmaker's Comments to Reporter

What Allison Donahue wanted was to ask a Michigan state senator whether he was a member of a Facebook group that put up posts advocating violence against Democrats and Muslims. What she got from Peter Lucido, who was hosting students from an all-boys school at the time, was a suggestion that she stick around the state Capitol. "You could have a lot of fun with these boys," he said, "or they could have a lot of fun with you." The high school students laughed at the remark, the Detroit Free Press reports. Donahue, 22, wrote in the Michigan Advance on Wednesday that Lucido's comments "objectified and humiliated me in front of a group of young boys."

Lucido said the matter was "blown out of proportion" but did apologize in a statement "for the misunderstanding yesterday and for offending Allison Donahue." The boys' school, which Lucido attended, said that the comments don't reflect its values and that educators told the students so. "We are very sorry the reporter was put in this position," De La Salle Collegiate said in a statement posted on Twitter. Senate leaders of both parties asked the Senate Business Office to investigate whether Lucido violated any rules. Donahue wrote that she waited a half-hour for Lucido to finish his visit with the students, then again asked him about the Facebook group.
