Gwyneth Paltrow has conceded making "such grave mistakes" with her Goop luxury lifestyle brand, CNBC has reported. After watching the trailer for Goop's upcoming Netflix series, The Goop Lab, some people see more ahead. The one-minute trailer for the six-part wellness series promises exorcisms, psychedelics, psychic mediums, and energy healing, per NBC, discussed by alternative health practitioners and individuals, doctors, and researchers. One woman who appears in the trailer says she completed years of therapy in "about five hours." Goop's claims have drawn backlash before, and Paltrow settled a lawsuit over some of them in 2018. In the trailer, Paltrow's co-host says, "What we try to do at Goop is explore ideas that may seem out-there, or too scary." There was little argument on social media with that claim:
- "Yay, I love encouraging and promoting pseudoscience in a time when parents are increasingly endangering their children by listening to influencers over doctors," one tweet read.
- "The most horrifying thing abt this is the word 'lab' which implies some sort of science which goop has NOTHING to do with!!" writer Amanda Rosenberg posted.
- Another tweet wondered whether Paltrow will "discuss the harmful suggestions & ideas about vaginas she gives to women."
The show's
poster received a reaction as well, with many people thinking it echoed a familiar Goop theme:
- "Every episode goes into a different vagina to leave jade eggs, crystals, and healing energies," one tweet suggested.
- "I regret to inform you that I was literally sipping coffee when I read this tweet," another post said.
The series launches Jan. 24. (More
