Nancy Pelosi's caucus is looking to get a little smaller over Democrats' march toward impeachment: New Jersey Democrat Jeff Van Drew, an outspoken critic of the impeachment of President Trump, is looking to cross the aisle and join the Republican party. "It was supposed to be bipartisan, it was supposed to be incontrovertible. It was supposed to be something that was always on the rarest of circumstances," Van Drew said last week of the process. "Well it’s not bipartisan." Van Drew met with Trump on Friday, and a grateful president is expected to hold an event next week with Van Drew. Politico notes a possible ulterior motive for the freshman rep: Recent polling shows his approval ratings lagging with Democratic voters in his Republican-leaning district. Van Drew is one of two Democrats who voted against opening the impeachment inquiry.
