Seven months before Friday's mass shooting at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Saudi 2nd Lt. Mohammed Alshamrani complained that he had been humiliated by one of his instructors at the base. The New York Times reports that the 21-year-old Saudi Air Force trainee filed a formal complaint saying he was "infuriated" by a nickname the instructor had called him in front of 10 other students. Alshamrani wrote that instructor James Day had called him "Porn Stash," though the instructor may have been referring to "Pornstache," a predatory prison guard in Orange Is the New Black who has a similar mustache. In his complaint, Alshamrani wrote that Day laughed and asked him: "What? Have you not seen a porn star before?" "After I did not respond, he just let go of the subject," Alshamrani wrote.

Sources say two American students helped Alshamrani file the complaint. Brian Busey, president of the company that employs Day, tells the Times: "Appropriate personnel action was taken regarding the incident in question, corrective action was taken, the matter was closed back in April, and we have no further comment." It's not clear whether there is any connection between the incident and the shooting rampage. The lieutenant is believed to have posted an anti-US rant on Twitter hours before the attack and the FBI says it is operating under the assumption that the shooting was an act of terrorism. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called Sunday for stricter vetting of foreign military personnel training at US military bases, saying they "should not be doing that if they hate our country," CNN reports. (The shooter held a creepy dinner before the attack.)
