A police officer with the LAPD is under investigation after footage from his bodycam led to what the police union calls an "extremely disturbing" allegation. Per officials who spoke to the Los Angeles Times, the officer and his partner turned up at a residential unit on an unspecified date in response to a call; they found a dead woman there. Sources say the partner headed back to their squad car to get something, which is when the officer in question allegedly turned his bodycam off and fondled the corpse's breasts. However, even though the camera had been manually deactivated, a built-in two-minute buffer still recorded the scene.

The footage of the incident, which a source tells CNN happened several weeks ago, was discovered when higher-ups were randomly examining video from officers' cameras. That source also says the incident, if true, is "way beyond the pale" and "unacceptable," adding that the officer's co-workers are angry about it. "Very disturbing," Assistant Chief Robert Arcos tells the Times, while the Los Angeles Police Protective League touts values that include "respect and reverence for the deceased," adding that "this behavior has no place in law enforcement." The officer has been placed on leave while officials investigate further. (More LAPD stories.)
