NCAA Women's Basketball Player Charged With Murder

NCAA women's basketball player Kamiyah Street was arrested Thursday and charged with murder, CBS Sports reports. The star point guard for Georgia's Kennesaw State University is one of five people accused in what police say was a "targeted shooting" of a 21-year-old man, Nashiem Hubbard-Etienne, who was found dead in the parking deck of an Atlanta apartment complex July 16. The eight counts Street faces include murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Street, a 20-year-old junior at the school, saw more time on the court this season (37 minutes per game) than all but one other member of the team. She averaged 21 points and 5 rebounds through the first four games of the season. KSU's assistant athletic director for communications says the school was made aware of the charges against Street Thursday night. "The individual has been suspended indefinitely from all women’s basketball team and athletic activities," he said in a statement. "Neither the university nor the athletic department have any additional information at this time." In addition to Street, four men between ages 20 and 22 were indicted in the crime Oct. 22, per the AJC. Three are in custody and one remains at large. (More Atlanta stories.)
