A doorbell camera may have captured a kidnapping in Los Angeles. At the very least, the Ring camera attached to a home in the Leimert Park neighborhood recorded a woman's screams as she was whisked away in a speeding car around 11:20pm Tuesday, reports People. "Help me, somebody help me," the woman shrieks for more than 30 seconds in the footage as the homeowner stands on her porch, looking down the street. A quieter male voice is heard saying, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." As the woman continues to scream, a 4-door white Prius speeds past the home with its trunk open.
Police investigated an initial complaint but found no evidence of a kidnapping before the video footage emerged Wednesday. The investigation was then reopened, per KTLA. Witnesses said the woman, seen in the car's passenger seat, was black with dark braided hair that was "being pulled backward" by the suspect, also black, according to the LAPD. "She was trying to get out of his car, but he wouldn't let her," one bystander tells CBS Los Angeles, noting she first heard the pair arguing. Police say the Prius had plastic wrap on the front passenger side window, possibly the result of a prior collision.
