If Sears and Kmart stores were animals, they would have just shifted a little higher up the endangered list. Transformco, the company that took ownership of the chains after Sears declared bankruptcy last year, announced Thursday that 96 more stores—51 Sears locations and 45 Kmart stores—will be closed by February. A full state-by-state list can be found here.
The closures will bring the total number of Sears and Kmart stores to 182, down from 425 in February and almost 2,000 five years ago, the Wall Street Journal reports. Transformco says going-out-of-business sales will begin Dec. 2, USA Today reports. The company says "Sears Hometown" stores, which specialize in tools and appliances, will not be affected. (Another round of closures was announced in September.)
