Carrie Costume Fools Cops: They 'Thought I Was Dead'

Her car was totalled, but Sidney Wolfe walked away with only a bruised leg after a run-in with a deer last week in Ohio. Still, "everyone who was a first responder thought I was dead." That's because the 20-year-old Ohio woman, who appears in a Marshall University production of Stephen King's Carrie, had just visited a haunted house in South Point dressed as the title character, complete with fake blood covering her hair and face. After hitting the deer as she drove 55mph on the interstate around 1:45am on Oct. 25, "I remember sitting there in shock … and thinking, 'I'm dressed as Carrie White. It looks like I've been mangled in a really terrible accident,'" Wolfe tells the New York Daily News.

A witness "immediately freaked out." When Wolfe called 911 she says she gave a warning about her makeup, but per NBC News, the message apparently wasn't passed along. "The cops were still frightened when they saw me. No one knew what was fake blood and what might be real blood," Wolfe says, per the Daily News. She adds a police officer arriving late to the scene interrupted a conversation Wolfe was having to insist that she receive medical assistance. "HAHAHAHA IM SO SORRY" Wolfe wrote in a viral tweet liked almost 400,000 times that also shows a photo of her makeup. "I risked my life to promote this musical. Y'all better buy tickets!!!!!" she later wrote. NBC notes the Halloween midnight showing of the musical in Ashland, Ky., sold out. (More Halloween stories.)
