British tabloids have started taking an interest in Rep. Katie Hill's complicated private life—and the Democrat is threatening to sue one of them over nude photos. Her lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Daily Mail Thursday after it published intimate photos online that were allegedly of Hill and the female campaign staffer she admitted having an inappropriate relationship with, reports Politico. In the letter to Mail executive editor Candace Trunzo, attorneys Marc Elias and Rachel Jacobs demanded that the photos be taken down at once. They warned that the newspaper could be in violation of California's strict "revenge porn" law, and added that a claim that Hill has "Nazi imagery on her body in the form of a tattoo is false and defamatory."
You have "exposed your publication to grave legal consequences for California has some of the strongest criminal laws in the United States against the secretive generation and distribution of private, sexual images," the attorneys wrote, telling Trunzo there would be legal consequences if the "abusive and spurious images" were not removed. Hill has apologized to her constituents for the relationship with a campaign staffer but denied claims that she also had a relationship with a congressional staffer, which would have been a violation of House ethics guidelines. The California lawmaker is going through a bitter divorce and blames her "abusive" estranged husband for the release of the photos. (More Katie Hill stories.)
