British police will get another interview with the US diplomat's wife involved in the car crash that killed 19-year-old Harry Dunn—just not in the UK. Anne Sacoolas requested to be interviewed by Northamptonshire Police in the US, where officers are now traveling, Sky News reports. The outlet notes the interview will be under caution, meaning Sacoolas can refuse to answer certain questions. However, "anything she does say can be used in a legal case." Sacoolas, 42, was interviewed at the scene of the Aug. 27 crash and again the next day. She then left the country on Sept. 15, two days after US officials had warned the UK Foreign Office that diplomatic immunity wouldn't be waived and that the travel was imminent, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said Monday. He noted UK officials objected but couldn't legally prevent the move.
Dunn's parents only learned Sacoolas had left the UK on Sept. 26, per the BBC. Family spokesman Radd Seiger calls the delay "worrying, unacceptable and unforgivable," adding authorities may have violated rules on supporting victims of crime. "It just seems to be one cover-up and one lie after another," mother Charlotte Charles tells the BBC. "We don't seem to be getting the truth from anybody." Chief Constable Nick Adderley says police supported the decision not to immediately inform the family as they were then planning a funeral. He adds "the suspect has cooperated fully with police and authorities" and her being out of the country "frustrates ... but does not stop" the investigation. Indeed, he says the police file has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service—a move Seiger is questioning since Sacoolas' interview is still to come. (More Harry Dunn stories.)
