Two days after Mets manager Willie Randolph lashed his critics for being "racial," he apologized for what he said, reports AP. The first black manager of a New York baseball team had suggested in an interview with a columnist from The Record that he was portrayed differently than white managers. "Is it racial? Huh? It smells a little bit,” Randolph said.

Randolph also accused the Met's SNY cable network of portraying him unfairly. “I want to apologize to the Mets ownership, SNY and my team for the unnecessary distraction I caused," Randolph said. "I shouldn't have said what I said. It was a mistake." Randolph is under pressure as the Mets struggle to meet this year's lofty expectation, with a 22-21 start.
